Cold sore, fever blister or herpes simplex virus

A cold sore is a virus that lives inside or tissue just beneath the very top layers of the skin.  You contracted it from someone with an open cold sore mostly passed from one another by kissing.  Herpes Simplex virus is closely related to Genital Herpes they are in the same family.  So be careful when making decisions about oral sex with an infected partner.  So the Herpes Simplex virus which caused cold sores around the mouth area leaves just beneathe the surface of the skin, it can set dormant for years and then have a break out.  Break outs are normally in the same place each time and are caused by many things, foods we eat, slobbering, stress.  There are many triggers, it is a good idea to become familiar with your body and what your triggers are, it will help in prevention of future breakouts.  Many doctors will prescribe Valtrex.  Valtrex has proven to be very successful when taken in the early stages.  Most people say there is a tingling feeling on the lip or mouth area affiliated with the onset of of the beginning of a cold sore. 

I get a cold sore on my lower lip, same place every time.  Normally mine comes up when I am stressed or I have chapped lips.  I can feel a lip bit of a tingle in the area that alerts me.  So one day I decided to some reading.  I read that Lysine, an amino acid essential to our bodies cell growth.  Lysine tends to block the herpes virus.  So I decided to start taking a Lysine.  I've been taking one for years everyday, haven't had a cold sore in over two years.  For me it worked.  I also took valtrex and as long as I was paying attention to the tingle it would work also, I just didn't like the side affects caused by Valtrex. 

What works for me doesn't always work for everyone.  I'm here just to give you options.  Always check with your doctor before takings meds including natural remedies, as some will interfere with meds.

Eyelash curlers

Ok so I have tried every or at least it seems like I have, eyelash curler you can buy.  I've used professional more expensive to very inexpensive.  So I have come to the conculsion Revlon, yes good ole Revlon, makes the best one out there.  Now this is my opinion only, but it curls better, stays all day and tends to pinch alot less (not sure but I think curlers will pinch because of the curve of the base).  Anyway you can purchase them at Walgreens that is where I bought mine.

Why Serums? Dr. Samuels Says it best.

I'm always telling my clients put your money in your serums, Serums are most important because they are usually repairing or preventing damage. Buying a Vit C Serum from Wal-mart its going to help but it will never get you where you want your skin to be.  Dr. Lawrence Samuels, Dermatologist, founder of RX Systems PF, explains it to you best. Here is what he has to say.

It's a beauty misconception that serums are just a more expensive form of skin moisturizer. Yes, the price is more per ounce than your average skin care product, but that's because you're getting more concentrated ingredients (and deeper-penetrating effects). Get the low-down on why serums are worth every penny when you keep reading.
Why use it? A serum is your go-to product to improve the overall look of your complexion. The active ingredient can bring antioxidants to the skin, restore cell growth, or help decrease pore size. But the one thing a serum doesn't do, typically, is moisturize the skin.
How does it work? "Moisturizers have a base that allows them to stay on the surface to moisturize the outer portion of the skin, but a serum has a lipid-soluble base that allows the active ingredient to actually penetrate into the epidermis," explains Dr. Lawrence Samuels, chief of dermatology at St. Luke's Hospital and founder of the Rx Systems PF skin care line.
Which one is right for you? "If you have acne-prone skin, the two most significant ingredients would be an L-ascorbic acid [which is true vitamin C] and retinol," Dr. Samuels says. "They're both antioxidants that improve the cell growth in the outer layer of skin." If you have normal skin, look for alpha lipoic and glycolic acids in the serum ingredient list.
How do you apply it? Use about a pea-sized amount of serum for the face and neck, applying the product about two minutes after your cleanser (not on wet skin). "Hydrated cells allow the active ingredient to penetrate better than dried cells," Dr. Samuels says. Then, wait another three to five minutes before applying your moisturizer. "Moisturizers help restore the keratin protein back to the skin, so they generally have a higher pH," he said. "If you put on your serum then immediately put on your moisturizer, it can somewhat decrease the effectiveness of your serum." Also, it's important to use face serums primarily at night, because UV rays and oxygen can cause them to oxidize — another reason to make sure you always keep a tight lid on your products.

Sunblock

Hey everyone,

My clients have all been coming in complaining about breakouts.  Unfortunately this time of year it isn't uncommon, why; because hopefully everyone is using sunblock not sunscreen sunblock.  There is a difference.  As I tell my clients, if you have your front door open but yet the screen door is closed, that's a sunscreen its a filter but not enough, when the front door is closed and no light can come in now that is a sunblock, nothing coming through nothing will penetrate the skin.  All free radicals will not penetrate and all sun will be reflected from the skin.  Now unfortunately most sunblocks contain a product called dimethecone, and that will tend to break you out.  The only product I know that doesn't have dimethecone  in the ingredients is Skin Medica Sun Shade 50+.  Just had a client come back from Costa Rica, was there for a week, and she said that sunblock really works, nothing penetrated my skin.  The best part of the story is, she had no breakouts.  Remember the products you see on TV that advertise all the time, are not the products you want to purchase.  Why, they put all their money into advertising and not their ingredients.  A true Sunblock, will be a little thicker and have an iridescent look to the product.  As always any questions you can call 636-236-1092, text me, or e-mail me to spaaahservices@gmail.com.  Also feel free to visit my website at http://www.lindaspaservice.com/.

SPF

SPF-Sun Protection Factor.  Folks this time of year you cannot go outside with SPF it is a must.  In fact layer it with Vit C serum first, moisturize with SPF and then use a good Sunblock.  Remember Sunblock not sunscreen, there is a difference.  Sunscreen is a filter but a block means nothing will penetrate that skin.  You won't regret when you are my age 54 that you used a good sunblock, as your skin will be preserved and show a lot less wrinkles.  Now sunblocks usually cause skin to break out, my biggest complaint from my clients.  So I went on a search and seek mission and found that dimethecone is an ingredient that will clog your pores and cause breakouts.  So the only product that I found that doesn't have dimethecone is Skin Medica Sun Shield 50+.  My clients use this products and love it, no breakouts no sun penetration or free radicals of any kind will get through to the skin.  You will pay alot more than your over the counter products but in the long run it will be worth it, promise.

Fish oil tablets

Was in whole foods the other day and these was a lady selling liquid fish oil in different flavors.  It was really good.  You'll have to try it out.

Anyway, she told me that you want to make sure the fish oil tablets or liquid that you are injesting everyday has to come from the smaller fish.  Such as sardines, the reason for this they have less amount of mercury in them.  Makes sense once I started thinking about it, so I went home and looked at my tabs that I am currently taking.  On the front label it read, purified to remove mercury.  Now for some reason that makes me feel safer, however, in the future I will be sure to read the label and make sure that my tabs are coming from the smaller fish.

Melatonin

Good Morning,

 

The other day I was at TJ Maxx and the was talking to the girl in the check out she was telling me how great she was feeling ever since she started taking Melatonin.  One pill a day she said and I sleep sound, go to sleep faster and the most amazing part to me was I wake up ready for the day.  She said, I'm getting more things done just feeling more rested. Who would have thought that one little pill could make me fill so different. 

 

Well I myself am fighting with menopause and my nights can be a little restless.  So I thought why not try it, so I went to Walgrens and they had buy one get one free for only $10.  So I thought what do I have to lose only $10.  So I took it home took one pill the first night and within 30 minutes I was ready for sleep and to my surprise the next thing I remember it was morning.  I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to walk Harley at 6:30.  Since then I have started taking two, I fall asleep really fast and stay asleep, don't even realize I am having night sweats.  I wake up the next morning refreshed and ready for the day.  What an amazing thing two little pills have made in my sleep pattern. 

 

Now I can't guarantee it will work for everyone.  I am only sharing my experience and the sales clerks experience.  But if you go to buy the product, there is a 3mg and a 5 mg, I bought the 5mg (still always thinking bigger and more is better, old habits die hard...lol).  I am truly amazed at how different I feel and my sleep has become.

PAP SMEARS NO MORE

Ladies have you heard no more yearly pap smears. Woo-hoo!!.  Its true according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch on March 22, 2012 New federal guidlines.  Women ages 21-29 every 3 years.  Women 30 and older Pap smear with HPV tests every five years or pap test alone every three years.  Women over 65 no longer need to have a pap smear.

Please be sure to check with your insurance companies as I don't think they will pay for yearly checkups anymore, so before your next scheduled appt talk to your insurance company.

Lightening Serums

Good Morning,

Sorry haven't posted in awhile I have been a little sick, but all well and back to beauty.  Lightening Serums, are great for sun damage, but remember all they are doing is lightening the skin, they are not getting rid of the damage.  The next time you are in the sun and don't use a good(and by this I mean a good brand not neutrogena) sunblock it will come right back out.  Lightening Serums must be used in conjunction with Retinol.  When applying your lightening serum mix your nightly retinol with it leave it on for 15-20 minutes before you apply a moisturizer.  The reason for this it takes most retinols that long to absorb and turn into retonic acid.  Retinol works on a cellular level it doesn't just sit on the top of your skin.  When you use this in conjunction you get the best of both worlds, instant gratification with the lightening serum because the sun damage temporarily disappears and lasting removal of the sun damage with the Retinol.  Any questions you need answered e-mail me at spaaahservices@gmail.com or call 636-236-1092.  Have a great day.

Vitamin C serum

Just learned something new from one of my vendors that I would like to share.

As long as I've been using Vitamin C serum it has always had a slightly yellow look, which seemed normal, since oranges are orange.  However, the clearer the serum is the fresher the batch of Vit C serum.  As it ages it starts to oxidize and that is what causes the slightly yellow color that you will see when using your serum.  The tingle factor you get is also from the oxidation.  Most Vit C serums are good for about 2 1/2 years if they are keep away from the sun and not left open.

Just goes to show that after 15 years there is still alot for me to learn about skincare.  lol.

Hello everyone.  One thing I want to remind people when you are using products on your face, use products from the same line.  Don't pull products from one line to another and expect them to work.  When products are formulated they are formulated to work together.  For example if you are using a product to clean your face with for acne, but yet you are using a heavy moisturizer, you are defeating the purpose.  Also, don't be afraid to purchase better products, products that you would buy in a Med Spa or Plastic Surgeons office are always the best.  Why, a. they last longer because it takes less of the product to use.  b. they put their money in their ingredients and not their advertising.  Remember when you go to the sales counter, the people saling you the product is a salesperson, not an esthetician, they have quotes to make plus they do not have the proper training, the only training they have is how the product works.  Any questions please call 636-236-1092.  Have a great day.

Wash your face

Just a reminder to wash your face every morning and evening.  No matter how late you get in you have to get the debris from the day off your face.  Everytime you go to bed without wasing your face you age your skin 7 days.  So listen up very very very important wash twice a day.  If you workout, gentle wash again.  Overwashing the face can cause whats known as oil-dry skin.  Oil-dry skin, can cause acne, the oil glands will send a message to the brain to produce more oil for the epidermis layer(the top layer)of skin.  When this happens acne can occur.  When that oil is trying to get to the top layer, if you are not exfoliating properly it will mix with debris and cause acne.  Any questions feel free to e-mail me at Spaaahservices@gmail.com or visit my website lindaspaservices.com.  Have a great day.

Remember when buying products, its always best to use products in the same line.  In other words don't use a cleanser from one line and a moisturizer from another line.  Products are formulated to work together, when you use a moisturizer cleanser with a acne moisturizer, they work against each other.  Always always remember that people at the sales counters are exactly that sales people.  Find a good esthetician, one you trust and listen to what she has to say.  When looking for a good esthetician, ask your friends who they use.  When I get a new client, I end up do sisters, cousins, aunts usually everyone in the family and their friends.  Also, remember the products that advertises the most is the one who spends their money on advertising not their ingredients.  Its always best when buying products to buy from your esthetician.  Cost is usually a little more but in the long run it is worth paying the higher price.  Why?  Believe it or not they will usually last longer because they actually work and your not over using the product by applying more because you just don't feel moisturized.  Any questions, call me a 636-236-1092.
